The papers are open to research according to the regulations of the Sophia Smith Collection with the following caveats:

  • Interview with Kiran Ahuja - closed until January 1, 2017
  • Interview with Yin Ling Leung - closed until January 1, 2025
  • Interview with Julia Liou - in-house access only; access agreement required
  • Interview with Eveline Shen - closed
  • Interview with Helen Zia - permission from narrator required to access interview

Restrictions on use:

The Sophia Smith Collection owns copyright to the interviews, except for the interviews with the following women: Kiran Ahuja, Sophya Chum, Lora Jo Foo, Amy Lam, Yin Ling Leung, Julia Liou, Beckie Masaki, Peggy Saika, Eveline Shen, and Helen Zia. These women have retained copyright to their interviews. Permission must be obtained to publish reproductions or quotations beyond "fair use." Requests for permission to publish quotations should be addressed to the Sophia Smith Collection and should include identification of the specific passages to be quoted, anticipated use of the passages, and identification of the user. It is the responsibility of the researcher to identify and satisfy the holders of all copyrights.

Historical Note

As an undergraduate at Brown University, Juhee Kwon (Class of 2014 with a B.A. in Biology and Ethnic Studies) interviewed organizers in the Reproductive Justice movement with the specific aim of capturing voices of Asian American women and their fight for reproductive justice since the 1980s.

Scope and Contents of the Collection

Seventeen oral history interviews (audio recordings and transcripts) conducted by Juhee Kwon with organizers in the Reproductive Justice movement with the specific aim of capturing voices of Asian American women and their fight for reproductive justice since the 1980s. Collection includes photographs, published materials, author's note, and original grant proposal.
