Biographical Note
Rosabelle Himes Matteson was born 8 Jan 1952 in Cranston, Rhode Island. Became a mill girl at "the Print Works." While commuting by trolley met lawyer Charles Matteson who she married in 1872. They had 3 children Archibald (1873), George Arnold (1874), and Paul (1884). They lived in Providence. Charles was elected to the bench of the Supreme Court of RI 1875 and Chief Justice in 1891. He retired in 1900, after which they traveled together in Europe, Far East, Middle East, and Caribbean. She had two mastectomies in 1901 and 1903. She died in 1920. |
