Founded in 1887 with the building of a new observatory and with Mary E. Byrd as Director, it became part of the Five College Astronomy Department starting in 1960. Records include a history of the department, booklets, course and faculty information, diagrams, account books, notebooks and photographs of astronomical observations, information on observatory instruments, correspondence, and notes and photographs of astronomical societies. Student work is also included, as well as information on the Five College Program.
