The papers are open for research according to the regulations of the Smith College Archives without any additional restrictions. Single photocopies may be made for research purposes. John Duke's will names the Smith College Archives as his manuscript trustee. Therefore, anyone wishing to publish, perform, or record any of Duke's unpublished words in entirely or in quotations in excess of "fair use" must receive written permission from the Director of the Smith College Archives in advance of publication or performance. The John Duke Papers came to the Smith College Archives in January 1985. The scores were a bequest of John Duke, and the remaining materials were a gift of his daughter, Karen Duke Sturges. |
