Gladys Dingledine Diggs was a native of Harrisonburg, Virginia. She was a member of the Smith College class of 1922, and after graduation worked as the manager of the bookstore at Madison College, before returning to Smith to work in the registrar's office from 1929-1958. In 1945, Diggs received her Masters degree in history from the college. From 1951-52, she served as the Vice-president of the Northeastern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. Diggs worked as registrar until her death on June 22, 1958. She left behind a daughter, Ellen-Fairbanks Diggs Bodman, Smith College Class of 1945, and 4 grandchildren.
The Gladys Dingledine Diggs Papers contain correspondence and scrapbooks spanning Diggs' youth and her career as Registrar of Smith College. The papers are divided in to two series as follows:
