Scope and Contents of the Collection
The Postcard Collection contains cancelled and unmarked postcards dating from the college's early years to the present with the bulk of the collection falling between 1900 and 1950. The postcards are black and white, monochrome and color; some of them contain written messages. The postcards depict various campus and local scenes including most of the campus buildings and landmarks; local landmarks, including private homes and public areas in the pioneer valley; and various events, people and places important to the college. Included in the collection are sets and a booklet of postcards picturing the campus and Northampton. Of special interest are images of the WAVES, Grecourt gates (France) and President Calvin Coolidge's house. One item of particular interest is a special issue postcard of Northampton scenes, filed under "Northampton environs," that features an accordion style, pop-out section. The postcards are arranged alphabetically by subject. |
