The biographical material includes a number of clippings from periodicals and newspapers, as well as prepared biographies for various projects and events in Marshall's career.

The correspondence includes a mix of professional and personal communications sent and received by Marshall in her various roles at Smith College, Bryn Mawr College, the Ford Foundation, the University of Massachusetts, Boston, the Northfield Mount Hermon School, and elsewhere. Correspondents of particular interest include Smith College presidents Thomas Corwin Mendenhall and Jill Ker Conway, and Mary Patterson McPherson (Smith College class of 1957, president of Bryn Mawr 1978-1997, and member of the Smith College Board of Trustees, 1998-2003). All of the correspondence from Bryn Mawr and some of the correspondence from Smith has been restricted according the College Archives Policy.

Marshall's writings and notes include preliminary and final drafts of papers, articles and speeches, as well as class and meeting presentations. The material includes early work-such as her Bryn Mawr Dissertation on D.F.S. Sarmiento (1937)-numerous presentations on Latin American politics and culture, as well as addresses given at formal academic events. Some material was released in a published format, but there are also informal outlines and notes from various classes, meetings and events.? There is also a file of research material Marshall collected, including newspaper and journal clippings, which relate to her academic interests.

This series includes a set of photographs given to Marshall when she left Bryn Mawr in 1970, as well as shots of commencement at Regis College (1972), Smith College (1977), and the College of the Holy Cross (1982). There are also several undated photographs of Marshall and the rest of the Smith College Board of Trustees. Memorabilia includes commencement programs from Regis College (1972), and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (1975), an announcement about the Dorothy Nepper Marshall Professorship at Bryn Mawr (ca. 1975), and a few other mementos of Marshall's achievements.
