Biographical Note

Charlotte Barrell Cheever was born on March 10, 1858 in Jewett City, Connecticut to parents Henry and Jane Tyler Cheever. She was a member of Smith College's Class of 1881 and later served as the President of the Alumnae Association (1883-1885) as well as on the Board of Trustees (1885-1889). After her marriage to William Jewett Tucker in 1887, she moved to Worcester, Massachusetts where she was an organizer of the Y.M.C.A. and her husband was a professor in the Andover Theological Society until 1893, when he took over the presidency of Dartmouth College. Mrs. Tucker took a great interest in music, community and public affairs, as well as in her husband's literary work. She died in Brookline, Massachusetts on April 5, 1944 after a long illness.

Scope and Contents of the Collection

Collection contains biographical information, as well as information pertaining to the family's genealogy. Also included the collection are Tucker's journals, poetry, and lecture notes. There is also extensive correspondence between Tucker and her friends and family, as well as various photographs documenting her life.
