The Summer School in Speech opened at Mount Holyoke College in 1937 to male and female college students under the direction of Professor Alive W. Mills. In 1939 it began including theater courses. Additionally, courses in broadcasting, public speaking, and debate were offered.
The records contain clippings from magazines and newspapers, pamphlets advertising the school, correspondence, reports, and photographs (1939). Information on courses offered during the summer, reflections on sessions by faculty, and summaries of sessions are all included.
