Scope and Contents note
The papers of Adaline D. H. Kelsey (1844-1931) span the years of 1878-1905 and include: Correspondence, Writings, Biographical information and Photographs. The Correspondence consists of four letters and describes her first trip to China under the auspices of the Presbyterian Missionary Society; practicing medicine in Tung Chow where she was the only physician for 50 miles around; and a lengthy journey via a mule train into the interior of China. The Writings include an autobiography, a brief dictated statement about a pewter teapot that once belonged to her grandmother, and a published article entitled "Hospital Experiences" written from Nikko, Japan in 1905. Photographs include four formal sepia photos of Dr. Kelsey at the time of her graduation from Mount Holyoke Female Seminary. This collection is organized into four folders:
