Felicien Rops was born in Belgium, but spent his professional life moving between Belgium and France. A painter, engraver and lithographer, Rops is known particularly for depicting women in sexually provocative poses. He was a member of the avant-garde in Belgium,a founding member of the Societe Libre des Beaux-Arts, and he joined Les XX in Brussels in 1886. He was technically innovative and his prints have always been highly regarded by collectors.
