There are twenty letters in this collection dating from September 18, 1924 to March 4, 1928. Eleven of them are from Holmes's freshman year at Mount Holyoke College. She wrote in detail to her family in Montclair, New Jersey, about her experiences as a student at Mount Holyoke College. The letters include descriptions of traditions such as Big Sisters, freshman hazing, Mountain Day celebrations, Junior Prom, and Faculty Show. The letters also describe parties, picnics, trips off campus, lectures, and conferences with faculty members Ralph Boas and Florence Purington.
