Hugo Tresello Saglio was born in Glastonbury, Connecticut, on June 1, 1909. At the age of nine, a pistol accident caused him to lose his eyesight. Despite this misfortune, he finished school, attended Amherst College (Class of 1931) and received his AM from Harvard in 1932. During his long and varied career, he worked as an instructor in English at Hartford Federal College (1934-1937), as a representative of the Equitable Life Assurance Society (1937-1942), as information officer for the Connecticut District Office of Public Affairs (1943-1947), as director of public relations for Hillyer College (1948-1952), and for the Connecticut Development Commission, where he worked as publicist (1952-1960), information officer (1960-1966), and chief of research and information. Saglio retired from work in 1975. He has been an active member of the Amherst Alumni Association and the Harvard-Radcliffe Association of Connecticut. Saglio married Helen Miller in 1940.
