There is no restriction on access to the Billings Sermons for research use. Particularly fragile items may be restricted for preservation purposes.
Requests for permission to publish material from Billings Sermons should be directed to the Archives and Special Collections. It is the responsibility of the researcher to identify and satisfy the holders of all copyrights.
Osmond Jesse Billings was born on July 9, 1878, in Sharon, Mass. He went to Sharon High School, Boston Latin School, Amherst (BA 1900) and Yale Divinity School (BD 1905). He served as minister at the First Congregational Church in Upton (1908-1915), Union Evangelical Church in Three River (1915-1924), Central Congregational Church in Orange (1925-1936), First Congregational Church in Newbury (1936-1944); and as pastor to the First Congregational Church in Georgetown (1944-1952). In 1926, Billings married Rena Nutting in Amherst. They had three children, Edward, Elizabeth and Carolyn. Billings died in 1978.
Handwritten sermons, including children's sermons, preached by Billings as a minister in various Congregational churches in Massachusetts. Also included are a journal of sermons given and various undated writings, notes and letters.
