History of the Collection
The collection consists chiefly of correspondence, diaries, sermons and commencement orations written by Amherst College alumni from 1821 to 1909, which were removed from numerous Alumni Biographical Files. Documents were presumably selected because of their perceived historical significance. The collection was compiled ca. 1981, but the project was never completed. Most of the items were catalogued on typed card files, but three boxes of documents were either left unprocessed or were added later. Processing of the collection was fully completed in November 2008.
